Compact Industrial HMI: How to Choose the Right Small Operator Panel

Not every machine needs a large operator terminal. Pumps, compressors, small packaging units, test stands, machine modules and auxiliary stations often need only a handful of functions: show status, change a few setpoints, acknowledge alarms, start and stop. For these applications, a compact industrial HMI with a screen of around 4 to 7 inches is usually the right size. Choosing a small operator panel looks simple, but the details decide whether it works well for years: the type of HMI, the touch technology, the interfaces to the controller, the power supply, the environment at the mounting location and the long-term availability of the device.
