Cholistan, locally called Rohi, is one of the largest deserts in the world. It is situated in the southern part of Punjab in Pakistan and covers an area of approximately 26300 square kilometers. It has been named Cholistan, meaning Chol, a Turkish word interpreted as desert, and in a true sense, the area is a barren piece of land. The park is a portion of the bigger Thar Desert that lies in the Indian territory as well.
